There has been an increasing popularity in holistic approaches to health in the behavioral health community, but what does holistic treatment mean?
Holistic treatment focuses on the concept that every individual can take charge in their personal well-being , focusing on the wellness of themselves from the inside out. Your mind, body, spirit and emotions are all connected with your concept of balance and when they are at war with one another, your personal alignment becomes skewed.
In his book, “The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind and Body in the Healing of Trauma”, Dr. Bessel van der Kolk explains:
“As long as you keep secrets and suppress information, you are fundamentally at war with yourself…The critical issue is allowing yourself to know what you know. That takes an enormous amount of courage.”
There are many cognitive behavioral approaches which have a mindfulness-based component such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mind Body Bridging, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and many more. These approaches address cognitions in order to affect behavior while simultaneously focusing on building skills to help your distress tolerance.
Substantial amounts of research demonstrate the benefits of approaching your personal wellness through nutrition, exercise, homeopathy, prayer, acupuncture and meditation. These approaches can encourage an increase in physical health, reduce your anxiety, and develop a consciousness around your own personal balance.
Avante Recovery Center’s focus is on the total health of an individual. Along with the therapies mentioned above, we have a non-smoking campus with smoking cessation options. In an effort to elicit a change in daily wellness practices, we encourage fitness and offer yoga and meditation classes daily. Nutrition Education is offered and we serve meals which have been planned by professional nutrition staff.
Any questions about additional programs we offer? We have daily services and programs available to take part in.
